Science, History, and Scripture:
Ancient Evidence Supports Biblical Accuracy

Bruce Barton

This presentation shows how the accuracy of Scripture has been repeatedly verified by archaeology, history, and science.  It will also look at scientific principles in Scripture waiting to be discovered by modern science. Dorothy Rozell will provide a elem. school program downstairs. Bruce Barton, (brucebarton@comcast.net) is Vice President of the CAPS Board. Bruce is a retired instrumentation engineer with degrees in Meteorology and Theology. He is on the Pastoral Care Team at New Heart Worship Center, Auburn, and frequently teaches on creation vs. evolution, Bible archaeology, apologetics for adults and youth. See his web page at http://monarch.nwcreation.net/

Outline of Topics:

(1) Early Historians support Genesis, e.g. Geoffrey of Monmouth, (1100 – 1155), Joseph Scaliger (1540-1609).

(2) Sun vs. earth Center of solar system Controversy of Copernicus. Galileo observation and Kepler’s laws, Superstition vs. Science, philosophy vs. science.

(3) Myth of The Flat Earth. This fallacy is still perpetuated by recent historians like Daniel Boorstin. But a spherical earth was accepted since the early Greeks, and even Isaiah 40:22 in 700 BC. http://www.veritas-ucsb.org/library/russell/FlatEarth.html

(4) Joshua’s Long Day, There are old stories that a long day occurred in the east, Greece: (Apollo’s son, Phaethon), and a long night occurred in the west: New Zealand (Maori) and Mexico (Culhuacan).  The legend that NASA Computers found a day missing day about 1400 BC  is erroneous - they can’t do this without a reference, although they can calculate solar and lunar eclipses to suggest historical dates. http://www.answersingenesis.org/creation/v19/i3/longday.asp

(5) Pagan Ideas have hindered science. But Biblical views of the world have surprisingly benefited science

(6) Waste of science Research Money, e.g. NASA is trying to prove that life evolved elsewhere, by looking for liquid water and life on Mars, to show this is “not difficult,” despite of the absurdly low probabilities. But pools of liquid water cannot exist, since Mars’ air pressure is mostly below the .0061 bar (atmos) Triple Point of water (at .01 deg. C), where the scarce ice sublimates directly into vapor. Average temp -55 deg. C http://www.bpastro.org/index.php?page=water-on-mars Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). They must have no definition of the intelligence they look for, since they missed the evidence that DNA was formed with Intelligent Design. Carl Sagan in his book Contact lamely suggested ET might repeatedly transmit the first 100 prime numbers (but for millions of years?).

(7) Evolution Frauds and hoaxes. Piltdown Man - an ape skull with teeth filed down, fooled scientists for 50 years. Kettlewell’s Moths rest under leaves, not on tree trunks for birds to eat, so to photo them, he had to paste them on the trees. http://www.discovery.org/a/4198 Haeckel doctored Embryo diagrams to make species look similar – 2 triples of wood cut diagrams were identical! This fraud was known in 1890s, but texts still had the error in 1990. http://www.discovery.org/a/3071

(8) False Ideas in Evolutionary Thinking. Racism is implicit in Darwinism (the subtitle of Origin of Species was Preservation of the Races) and even genocide (Maori. NZ), a Darwinian struggle for survival. Vestigial Organs are supposedly unnecessary organs left over from ancestors. This was the main “evidence” cited by Darwin, since the fossil record wasn’t, and still isn’t, supportive. These included the lymph glands, and tonsils, which are now known to be useful for immunity.

(9) Contributions of Creationist Scientists are downplayed, they are ignored or refused jobs and honors. Textbooks ignore the fact that the founders of virtually every branch of science were believers in Genesis: e.g., Isaac Newton, Johannes Kepler, Galileo Galilei, and Michael Faraday. Recently, Raymond Damadian was denied the Nobel Prize for his invention of the MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) body scanner. http://creationontheweb.com/content/view/536/
